Obituary, Mary G. Briggs

 

Millbrook – Mary G. Briggs of Millbrook, NY passed away at the age of 65 after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family on January 14th 2016 at Westchester Medical Center. Mary, the daughter of Joseph and Teresa Malloy Gill was born in Drumlish Co. Longford, Ireland on September 10th 1950. On September 30th 1972 she married Donald H Briggs at St. Mary’s Church in Drumlish, Ireland. Between raising her family, working as a CNA at the Dutchess County Infirmary and recently retiring from the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, Mary was the epitome of selflessness. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Theodore H Briggs II and his wife Christine and their children Matthew Hammond and Emma Rose, her daughter Shannon and her husband Matthew Manning and their children Jack, Lila and Casper and her daughter Moire and her husband David Purcell. She is also survived by her siblings in Ireland, her sister Beatrice, her sister Anne and her husband Sean Balfe, her sister Bernadette and her husband Brendon McCormack, her sister Helen and her husband Charlie Grimes, her brother Thomas Gill and his wife Kathleen, and her brother in law Frank McGowan, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Teresa McGowan and her mother in law Betty Briggs. Mary was a blessing to all those lives she touched. Millbrook was her home and she loved all those in the community. She was a sympathetic listener who truly cared and was always concerned about the well-being of others. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing professionals who tirelessly cared for her at Westchester Medical Center. Calling hours will be held at  3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY on Thursday, January 21st from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph’s Church in Millbrook, NY on Friday, January 22nd at 10am. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to contribute, please a make a donation in her name to the Dutchess County SPCA or St. Joseph’s Church, Millbrook, NY.
