Clermont, New York – On January 16, 2016, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested 22-year-old Andrew Casey, of Sound Beach, New York, for Vehicular Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, and Driving While Intoxicated, an Unclassified Misdemeanor.

On the evening of Saturday, January 16, 2016, State Troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to investigate a 1-car fatal collision that occurred on State Route 9 in the Town of Clermont.  An investigation indicates that a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer operated by Casey, was traveling northbound on State Route 9 when the vehicle exited the roadway on the eastern shoulder.  The vehicle struck several trees and a utility pole before it came to rest down an embankment.

Troopers interviewed Casey and observed clues that indicated he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.  He was placed in police custody and transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A passenger traveling in the vehicle, Andrew Clarke, 28 years old, of Red Hook, New York, was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Casey was arraigned before the Town of Livingston Justice Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.

The crash, which closed Route 9 for several hours, was reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

The crash remains under investigation and toxicology results are pending. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Livingston by calling (845) 677-7300.

The State Police were assisted by the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, members of the Clermont Fire Department, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, Livingston Fire Department, the Columbia County Coroner’s Office, and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
