Enoch Crosby Chapter, NSDAR Sponsors Flag Essay Contest

The Enoch Crosby Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring an essay contest for all fifth and sixth graders. Children who are home-schooled are invited to participate as well.
For 125 years the Daughters of the American Revolution have dedicated themselves to historical preservation, promotion of education and the encouragement of patriotic endeavors. The Flag Essay Contest is just one way in which our Society encourages students to participate in that mission.
The topic of the essay is “What the Flag of the United States of America Means to Me.” All participants will receive a certificate and a copy of the Flag Code, while the writer of the winning essay will receive a check for $25.00 and an inscribed copy of the book, Our Constitution Rocks.  The winning essay will be submitted to the New York State contest where the prizes are First Place, $100.00, Second Place, $50.00, Third Place, $30.00 and Honorable Mention, $20.00.
Last year’s chapter winner went on to receive the First Prize at the state level.

Each entry must be between 250 and 500 words, typed in font no smaller than 12 point or larger than 14, or neatly handwritten in blue or black ink. A title page including the student’s name, address, telephone number, email, name of the school attended, grade, teacher, and the sponsoring chapter, Enoch Crosby, should be sent with each essay.

Please submit the essays to Sheila Carlin, 9 Westview Avenue, North Salem NY 10560 by March 11, 2016. If there are questions about the contest, please call Sheila Carlin at 917-375-2317 or email at fourplus@optonline.net.
