Bronx woman charged with drug possession following traffic stop

East Fishkill, New York – On December 12, 2015, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from Wappinger arrested Theresa Melendez, age 54, of the Bronx, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a Class B Felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a Misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a Violation. Melanie Melendez, age 37, of the Bronx, New York, was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree, a Misdemeanor.
Subsequent to a traffic stop for speeding on the Taconic State Parkway, Melanie Melendez was found to be driving with a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle’s passenger, Theresa Melendez, was found to unlawfully possess a small quantity of marihuana, and a large quantity of prescription drugs.
Both defendants were arraigned before the Town of LaGrange Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail. Melanie Melendez was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $250 bail. Theresa Melendez was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond. Their next court appearance was scheduled for December 16, 2015 at 4:00 PM at the Town of East Fishkill Court.
