Pierce, Betty L., age 80, of Holmes, NY, died peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2015 in Carmel, NY.
Betty was born May 17, 1935 in the Town of Kent, NY to Lawrence and Ina (Parsons) Barrett. She was a graduate of Carmel High School, Carmel, NY.
Betty married the love of her life, Art Pierce on May 20, 1956 at the Farmers Mills Baptist Church. Arthur died on December 31, 2006.
Through the years, Betty worked at Guideposts in Carmel, NY, the Greenhaven Prison, and the Kent Nursing Home in Holmes, where she was the Assistant Administrator. She retired from Kent Nursing Home in the early 1990’s.
Betty was a member of the Holmes United Methodist Church, as well as the Holmes Church United Methodist Women. She was the annual Spaghetti Dinner greeter for numerous years, a task that she truly enjoyed. She was also a member of the Patterson Grange and an avid NASCAR fan.
Betty is survived by her ‘daughter’ Mary-Lynn Pruitt and her husband Ralph of Holmes, NY; her brother Harold ‘Butch’ Barrett, her nieces Suzanne Blessey and Samantha Barrett, nephews James, Jason and John Barrett. Also her grandchildren Lindsey and Scott Jarzombek and Shawn and Kelly Ann Pruitt; and great grandchildren Silas and Eli Jarzombek.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015, 6:00 pm at the Holmes United Methodist Church, Holmes Rd., Holmes, NY. A private cremation was held earlier and Betty’s ashes will be interred with her beloved Art at the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Patterson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, family has requested contributions in Betty’s memory be made to Holmes United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 146, 41 Holmes Road, Holmes, NY.
