Lafayette’s Emily Keller-Coffey of Millbrook Makes Connections through Service

EASTON, PA (11/12/2015)(readMedia)– Emily Keller-Coffey of Millbrook (NY, 12545), a sophomore at Lafayette College, spent the days leading up to new student orientation helping with local service projects as part of Lafayette’s Pre-Orientation Service Program (POSP) coordinated by the Landis Center.

Keller-Coffey, a Kids in the Community (KIC) volunteer, was among 60 students selected for five major Easton sites: The West Ward Neighborhood Partnership Camp, Kids in the Community Day Camp, Spring Garden Children’s Center, Teens in the Community Day Camp, and The Easton Area Senior Center.

Volunteers participated in various activities and took on a number of roles at their designated service sites–painting, gardening, renovating, serving as classroom aids and camp counselors, just to name a few. Most importantly, volunteers had the opportunity to foster remarkable friendships with young children, teens, and local seniors throughout their experience with POSP.

For first-year students, POSP is an excellent transition to Lafayette College and the Easton community. The Landis-run program serves as a catalyst that encourages students to make connections through their involvement in meaningful service experiences, and results in increased appreciation of the Easton Community.

Keller-Coffey is a graduate of The Millbrook School.
