Poughkeepsie, New York – On November 10, 2015, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested 31-year-old Aaron H. LaVelle, of Poughkeepsie, New York, for Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in the 3rd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, Driving While Impaired by Drugs, an Unclassified Misdemeanor, and several other vehicle and traffic offenses.

Troopers observed an erratically operated 2007 Hyundai Sonata traveling on South Grand Avenue with its rear passenger side door ajar.  The officer activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens and the driver continued to travel on South Grand Avenue without stopping.  The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as LaVelle, came to a stop at the intersection of State Route 376 and Zack’s Way where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Following an investigation conducted by the arresting officer, LaVelle was found to be impaired by drugs at the time of the stop.  A State Police Drug Recognition Expert evaluated LaVelle and confirmed that he was impaired.

LaVelle was arraigned before the Town of Pleasant Valley Justice Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.  He is due to appear in Town of Poughkeepsie Court at a later date.
