State Police investigate a car / pedestrian collision

PRESS RELEASE

On November 11, 2015 at approximately 8:20 p.m., New York State Police from the Middletown barracks were dispatched to the Town of Deerpark in the area of State Route 209 and Clarke Lane for a reported car / pedestrian auto collision.

An investigation revealed that Yao Sun, 18 years old, of Port Jervis, NY was traveling southbound on State Route 209.  The victim, Robert Sorensen, age 21, of Newburgh, NY was walking in an unknown direction on State Route 209 when he was struck by the 2013 Nissan operated by Sun.  Sorensen was taken to Bon Secours Hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Westchester Medical Center where he is being treated for head trauma.

The collision was reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.  The cause remains under investigation.
