Obituary, Georgeanna Duncan

 

Millerton – Georgeanna Duncan, 94, a seventy-three year resident of Millerton, NY, died Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mrs. Duncan had worked as a school cafeteria manager in Averill Park, NY, prior to moving to Millerton in 1942 where she and her husband owned and operated Duncandale Farm, Inc., for over 70 years.

Born December 12, 1920 in Bainbridge, NY, she was the daughter of the late George Oscar and Anna (Van Valkenburg) Jaynes. She attended and graduated from Treadwell area schools and received an Associate in Applied Science Degree in food service from the State University of New York at Delhi.

On September 13, 1942 in Averill Park, she married Kenneth T. Duncan, her husband of over seventy-two years. Mr. Duncan died June 4, 2014.

Mrs. Duncan will forever be remembered as a caring friend and mentor to many people throughout her life. She adored her family and was always there to lend an ear and provide guidance and advice when asked. Her family meant the world to her and she was the glue that held everything together. She was a true example of a lady, the likes of which are hard to find today.

Mrs. Duncan was a member of many organizations and causes throughout her life, including the Order of the Eastern Star, Millerton Grange, and Millerton Presbyterian Church where she served as a Church Elder and Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. She was a Brownie Troop Leader and served on the committee to consolidate the Amenia and Millerton School Districts into the North East (Webutuck) Central School District in the late 1950s. For many years, she also served on various other committees for the Webutuck School District.

She is survived by her three children, Donald and Sharon Duncan and Patricia and Thomas J. Flood all of Millerton and Jim and Annette Duncan of Ballston Spa, NY. Eight grandchildren: Bruce (Wendy) Duncan, Alex Duncan, Steve (Kim) Duncan, Amy DeCesare, Leo Flood, Jennifer Flood and Erik and Alysia Hamilton. Six great grandchildren: Sydney, Chelsea, Bailey, Gabriel, Ariana and Braeden Duncan and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry Daniel Jaynes, who died on April 23, 1943, in North Africa.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Adeline Archer for her wonderful care and special friendship and to the staff at Sharon Hospital I.C.U. and E.R. for their care and kindness. And to Dr. David Kurish for his care and compassion throughout the years.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 2pm at the Millerton Presbyterian Church, 58 Main Street, Millerton, NY, with a reception at the church immediately following. Reverend Zora Cheatham will officiate. Burial will take place privately at Irondale Cemetery in Millerton, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Millerton Presbyterian Church, P.O.
