Adult Survival Program to be Held at Bowdoin Park

Poughkeepsie…Have you ever wondered what you would do if you found yourself lost in the woods? Could you survive until rescuers arrived? What steps could you have taken to avoid getting lost in the first place? The Dutchess County Parks Division is hosting an Adult Survival Program on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Bowdoin Park. The program will help participants, 18 years of age and older, understand the necessary steps to take in a survival situation, including how to prepare for a trek into the woods and the immediate actions necessary when a survival situation arises. The program is being provided free of charge for participants; however, space is limited and registration is required.

The program will focus on the skills required to make an effective shelter and fire, with special emphasis on situational awareness as a method to prevent getting lost. Finding safe drinking water and basic plant identification will also be a part of the discussion. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
