County to Host Substance Abuse Education & Prevention Forum at Dover High School

Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro, along with the Dutchess County Substance Abuse Workgroup, will host a “Community Forum on Prescription Drug and Opiate Abuse Prevention” Wednesday, October 21st from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Dover High School located at 2368 Route 22 in Dover Plains. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this important event to learn more about how they can prevent and/or treat substance abuse.

“Substance Abuse is a very serious issue in our community which greatly affects our county residents and criminal justice system. This issue does not discriminate based on region, age, or demographics.  This forum is one of several that have been hosted around the county to provide information to the public to prevent substance abuse and connect those who need help with all the programs and services that are available to assist those suffering from addiction as well as their loved ones,”  said County Executive Molinaro.

The goal of the upcoming forum will be to help articulate the extent of the problem, increase awareness in the community, explore the correlation between mental health and substance abuse issues, and to share information on addiction and treatment opportunities. Among the participants will be elected officials, members of law enforcement, and health professionals. Personal stories will also be shared from people who have faced and overcome addiction. After the panel discussion, there will be a question and answer session for the public.
