Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film Intensive Returns to Millbrook

On October 24th Spark Media Project will host a free youth filmmaking workshop at the Millbrook Free Library. The Millbrook Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film Intensive, which runs from 10am-4pm, will give participants access to professional filmmaking equipment like green screens, production quality cameras, and laptops, as well as the chance to create stories set in fantasy realms, with characters that can shoot lightning from their fingertips, use telekinesis, and even teleport!

Students ages 10 to 15 will spend the day working in groups to script, storyboard, film, and edit their own original science fiction short films. The intensive will give attendees a glimpse into the world of media production, as well as an opportunity to hone their creative and cooperative skills.

Participants of the Millbrook Library Workshop will have the chance to see their films screened in front of an audience at Spark’s Winter Share Community Screening. The screening, which will be held on December 18th, from 6-8pm at the Mid-Hudson Library System Auditorium, is sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Library System in partnership with the Mobile Media Lab Initiative. The event is free of charge, and refreshments will be provided.

The science-fiction filmmaking intensive is part of Spark’s Mobile Media Lab. The initiative is supported by the NYS Regional Economic Development Council and the Mid-Hudson Library System. Through the Mobile Media Lab, Spark teaching artists travel to libraries throughout Hudson Valley, and bring media arts workshops to the children and youth free of charge. Don’t miss a chance to participate while it’s in your area!
