Putnam Valley Woman Charged With DWI

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Putnam Valley woman on a charge of DWI.

On September 23, 2015 at approximately 10:00 p.m., while patrolling the Town of Putnam Valley, Deputy Sheriff Matthew Tunney observed a motorist fail to stop at a stop sign at the northbound exit ramp of the Taconic State Parkway at Bryant Pond Road; swerve across pavement markings into the oncoming lane of traffic; and drive onto the shoulder of the roadway. The deputy initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle and determined that the driver, identified as Emily A. Nilsson, 28, of 51 Park Drive, Putnam Valley was intoxicated. The deputy arrested Ms. Nilsson and charged her with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after the woman failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
