State Police arrest two Peekskill teens following larceny complaint

Cortlandt, New York – On August 24, 2015, at approximately 1:23 a.m., New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks responded to a Cortlandt residence on Laurel Road for a reported larceny in progress.

Troopers interviewed the complainant, a 49-year-old Cortlandt man, who reported that he observed 2 subjects inside of his 2015 Acura that was parked on the street. The complainant retrieved his legally possessed handgun and exited his residence. He stated when he approached the suspects, one of them turned at him and was possibly holding a weapon at which time the complainant fired one round at the suspect, missing him.

Both suspects fled on bicycles and were subsequently apprehended several miles from the scene by Troopers. The suspects, age 15 and 16, both of Peekskill, were not injured from the incident. They were both charged with Petit Larceny (Class A Misdemeanor). The 16-year-old suspect was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear before the Town of Cortlandt Court on September 4, 2015. The 15-year-old was issued a Family Court Appearance Ticket ordering him to appear before Westchester County Probation on September 3, 2015.

The incident remains under investigation with the assistance of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
