Stockport, New York – On August 15, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Livingston barracks arrested 51-year-old Joseph S. Taylor, of Columbia County, for Criminal Contempt 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree and Menacing 3rd Degree, all Misdemeanors.

At approximately 12:01 a.m. on August 15th, Troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a domestic incident that occurred on County Route 20 in the Town of Stockport.  The victim reported to police that she and Taylor had a verbal argument in a vehicle while traveling on Route 20.  She asked to exit the vehicle and Taylor willingly pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway.  The victim exited the vehicle and the dispute turned physical.  As she called for help, several Good Samaritans overheard the struggle and attempted to assist her.  Taylor then left the scene prior to police arrival.  The victim further stated that she is the protected party named in a court order of protection against Taylor.

Troopers located Taylor traveling westbound on County Route 20 and attempted to stop him.  Taylor then entered the eastbound lane causing a head-on collision with an eastbound vehicle.  The operator of the vehicle was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Taylor fled the scene of the crash on foot.

Officers learned that Taylor may be staying with a friend in Stockport.  Upon their arrival, Taylor was observed unlawfully entering a nearby residence to avoid his arrest.  He was subsequently placed in custody and transported to SP Livingston.

Taylor was arraigned before the Town of Stockport Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail
