Obituary, Arlene P Regan-Beckett

Pawling – Arlene P Regan-Beckett, 49, of Pawling, NY, passed gently on the morning of Wednesday August 12, 2015, in Poughkeepsie, NY. Arlene was born in Manhasset, NY, on September 30, 1965. The early years of her life were in Greenock, Scotland, then she returned to America and the balance of her youth was in Great Neck, NY, where she attended St Aloysius and Kensington-Johnson elementary schools, and Great Neck South High School.

She met her husband John Beckett in Great Neck in 1994, at the Vigilant Fire Department, where she had been a member in the 1980s.They were married on April 12, 1995, in Manhasset, NY, after which they lived on Long Island. They relocated to the Hudson Valley in June 2011, first in Holmes, NY, then finally to Pawling in December of 2012 where the hills and mountains reminded her of Scotland. She is survived by her daughter Catherine, husband John, brother Stanley Mickus Jr, six cats and a dog. She is re-united in heaven with her first daughter Chelsea, mother Patricia and her beloved Nanna (grandmother Anna Maria Henderson)

Many have said of her that she had a good heart, a quick sense of humor, and that she was passionate. She loved her pets dearly, and was surrounded by cats all of her life. She had a keen interest in gems and jewelry and enjoyed sharing that interest with family and friends. She was a talented painter, and produced many fine works that channeled her feelings to canvas.

More than anything, she adored her daughter Catherine who was the light and joy of her life. They spent many hours together in her early years where Catherine picked up her mother’s gentle Scottish burr. They enjoyed times in the Adirondacks, summer and winter, skiing, swimming, climbing Bald Mountain and friendships with their Adirondack neighbors. More than you know.

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted but not forsaken; cast down but not destroyed.”

Visiting will be on Monday August 17, from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at  45-09 Little Neck Parkway, Little Neck NY, 11362. Phone 718 229-4949.
