Marist to Host Enterprise Computing Conference, June 14-16

In collaboration with their academic and industry partners in the Enterprise Computing Community (ECC), Marist College will host the seventh annual ECC National Conference from June 14-16, 2015. Funded initially by a two-year grant from the National Science Foundation in 2008, the Enterprise Computing Community (ECC) has brought together more than 1,200 representatives from industry and academia to propose changes to undergraduate curricula that address skills shortages in large systems computing and to develop ideas to introduce computational concepts earlier in a student’s educational experience. The 2015 conference themes are cloud computing, cybersecurity, cognitive computing, and the new IBM z13.

“Industry and government are struggling to attract new technologists to replace aging workers, who manage the enterprise computing systems that are vital to continued economic growth and national security,” said Dr. Roger Nortondean of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics at Marist. “This will leave gaps in the workforce in a variety of areas critical to our country: banking, commerce, healthcare, public safety, transportation, and the military.”

During this two-and-a-half-day event, participants will hear keynote presentations from Michael Desens, IBM vice president and business line Executive for System zFBI Special Agent and cybersecurity expert Carrie CrotDean Marsh, IBM vice president, cross brand solutions sales; and James Hendler, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Tetherless World Professor of Computer and Cognitive Sciences. There will also be a variety of technical presentations, panel discussions, and plenary sessions, as well as opportunities to network with students, faculty, vendors, and industry professionals.

There is no cost to attend the conference or to join the ECC community.  Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and registration remains open. Visit ecc.marist.edu/conf2015 for additional information.
