Fun, Games, and College Planning at the Pawling Library

By Susan Stone

There is always something interesting happening at the Pawling Library.  From toddlers to seniors, the Library buzzes with activity.   The Library’s program coordinators shared some highlights of recent events.

From the Children’s corner, Ms. Neena writes:

During our bi-weekly LEGO Adventure Club, children in grades K-2 enjoyed an afternoon brainstorming session. Each week, the children are given a new challenge and then they free-build whatever their imaginations desired! Then, their marvelous creations were placed on display in the Main Library as part of our LEGO museum. On our last date of the Winter session, children were challenged to design their names flat out of LEGOs, mural style. They came up with creative ways to build and represent letters, especially given the difficulty of creating diagonal lines and curves with straight bricks. The program will be offered again in the upcoming Spring session, with all new challenges!

From the Teen Space, Kate Lambert shared:

On Saturday, March 10, teens at the Pawling Library got together for a tie-dye party. They learned four different methods for tie-dying shirts. After folding, twisting, and securing their shirts with rubber bands, they applied their dye in a variety of colors. The resulting 1960s-esque shirts came out looking great, and the teens had fun unleashing their creativity, socializing, and listening to music while they worked.

For Young Adults (and their Parents), Donald Partelow had this to say:

What it Takes to Get into College Today, a presentation by  Stephanie Mauro offered a thorough college planning blueprint for students to follow and succeed. Even those who thought they had a solid college plan in place, learned something of value they overlooked. Among the many topics covered were: How important are SAT & ACT tests and how do colleges value them & The financial aid systems and how they work. Each participant left with an informative packet, an excellent resource for students and their parents to review.  Ms. Mauro will return again in autumn for new seminars: helping young people by showing them the best possible path to their goals.

Spring programming is just around the corner. There is something fun, informative and interesting happening every day!  Log onto pawlinglibrary.org for more info.
