Vancouver Family in Survival Mode After Husband, Father Killed While Biking to Work

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A Vancouver family is reeling after the sudden loss of Jeff Buck, a husband and father who was struck and killed while biking to work earlier this month.

A Family Man Remembered

“Jeff was very loved by pretty much everybody,” said his wife, Sabrina Buck.

The couple’s life together was built on love, family, and adventure. Their days revolved around family meals, time outdoors, and shared traditions.

“Dinner every night together, breakfast on the weekends. We were big into outdoors, so we’re out hiking, camping, whitewater rafting,” Sabrina said.

Their story began 10 years ago as friends, blossoming into a partnership and, eventually, a family over the last four years.

“We hung out one day, and it ended up being every day we ended up being together,” Sabrina recalled.

A Routine Ride Turns Tragic

Jeff was known for riding his e-bike to work every day. Safety was a priority—he always wore his helmet and stayed mindful of traffic.

On the morning of August 5, his routine ended in tragedy.

“He gets up, he helps the kids with breakfast… left for work as normal,” Sabrina said. But soon after, her daughter called in panic.

“My 28-year-old daughter, she calls me and she’s like, ‘There’s been an accident down the street. It’s somebody with a bicycle…check and make sure that it’s not your husband.’”

Using Life360, the family tracked Jeff’s location and realized something was wrong. “Turns out he was in that area and he had been there for an hour. My brother went and checked and he was like, ‘That’s your husband’s bike.’”

The Collision

According to Vancouver Police, the crash occurred at the intersection of Northeast 49th Street and 127th Avenue, where Jeff was traveling in a clearly marked bike lane. Investigators say a truck driver turned left in front of him, striking him.

Witnesses rushed to perform CPR at the scene, but Jeff later died at the hospital.

Family in Grief

The Buck family is now left navigating the daily reality of life without him.

“Every day there’s memories of him, the kids expecting him to come in the door,” Sabrina said. “Trying to remember things like eat, breathe, sleep.”

The tragedy has been especially hard on Jeff’s 11-year-old son, Harlan, who already experienced the loss of his biological mother to cancer five years ago.

“We only got to go to two football games together,” Harlan said of his dad. “He really liked it, and we got to go to his favorite team, too. The Seahawks.”

A Preventable Loss

For Sabrina, the hardest part is knowing the accident could have been avoided.

“Take that moment to stop and look. Everybody is in such a hurry to get to nowhere,” she urged.

Police say the investigation remains active, and no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.

Community Support

As the Bucks struggle with their grief, friends and neighbors have rallied around them. A fundraiser has been launched to help support the family through the difficult months ahead.

For Sabrina and her children, survival now means finding strength in the memories Jeff left behind.
