Nam Knights of Orange County: Honoring Veterans, Military, Law Enforcement, and First Responders

ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. – On Sunday, August 17, the Nam Knights of Orange County, a chapter of the American Military, Veteran, and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, hosted one of their largest gatherings to date. With hundreds in attendance, the event celebrated service, sacrifice, and community, while raising crucial funds to support veterans, law enforcement, and first responders.

A Mission Rooted in Brotherhood

The Nam Knights Motorcycle Club was first established in the summer of 1989 by Jack Quigley, a retired Undersheriff of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department and a Vietnam veteran who served as a platoon sergeant with the 11th Motor Transport Battalion, First Marine Division.

The club’s origins can be traced to a group of Vietnam War combat veterans and police officers who sought to recapture the deep brotherhood forged during service in Southeast Asia. From those early days, the mission has remained clear:

  • To honor the memory of veterans, police officers, and first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

  • To assist veterans and officers in need, whether physically, emotionally, or financially.

  • To strengthen community awareness by sponsoring and participating in charitable events and fundraisers.

From that modest beginning, the Nam Knights have grown into a nationwide brotherhood with 69 chapters spanning 16 states, Washington, D.C., and two Canadian provinces. Membership now includes veterans of all eras, active and retired law enforcement officers, and dedicated civilian patriots.

Local Impact in Orange County

The Orange County chapter has become one of the most active and impactful in the region. Every dollar raised goes directly to programs that benefit local veterans, military families, police, and first responders. The group is also the largest contributor to WTBQ’s annual “Toys for Military Tots” drive, ensuring that every toy collected stays within the local community.

“Our mission has always been about service and remembrance,” said members of the chapter. “We ride to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and we work to make sure their memory lives on by supporting those still with us.”

A Record-Breaking Fundraiser

This year’s August gathering drew a record 500 attendees, many roaring in on Harley-Davidsons, with a few quieter cars joining the crowd. The atmosphere was festive, with the unmistakable sound of motorcycle engines setting the tone for a day filled with camaraderie.

The all-you-can-eat spread included barbecue chicken, pork, burgers, hot dogs, clams, and shrimp—fuel for a day of music, conversation, and shared purpose.

Local leaders also came out in force to show support. Among those in attendance were Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, Sheriff Paul Arteta, Town of Monroe Supervisor Tony Cardone, Monroe Councilwoman Dorey Houle, Legislator Janet Sutherland, District 2 Legislator-elect Aaron Ubides, and Legislator Paul Ruszkiewicz.

Their presence underscored the strong ties between the Nam Knights and the broader community they serve.

The Spirit of the Nam Knights

For the Nam Knights, the annual fundraiser is more than just an event—it’s a continuation of their founding principles. As founder Jack Quigley once said, the club was built “to help other veterans of all wars who are unable to physically or financially help themselves.”

That spirit of selflessness and solidarity was on full display during the Orange County fundraiser. Attendees came not only from the Hudson Valley but also from across New York State and beyond, reflecting the deep respect the club commands nationwide.

Continuing the Legacy

Today, the Nam Knights of Orange County thrive thanks to the extraordinary commitment of their members, families, and loyal supporters. Their tireless efforts ensure that the sacrifices of veterans, law enforcement officers, and first responders are never forgotten, and that those in need always have a place to turn.

As the organization looks ahead, its mission remains steadfast: to honor, assist, and serve. Through events like the August 17 fundraiser, the Nam Knights demonstrate the power of community, brotherhood, and dedication to those who protect and serve.
