POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – A large-scale law enforcement operation unfolded Wednesday morning as multiple police agencies, including the City of Poughkeepsie Police, New York State Police, and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at a commercial property on Smith Street. The FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force is also reported to be involved in the investigation.
Early Morning Search
Around 7 a.m., officers arrived at the site, which consists of two structures: a single-story building at the front, reportedly used as a club or recreation center, and a larger multi-story building toward the rear of the property. Investigators searched both buildings extensively, and at one point, officers used a gas-powered saw to gain entry to the rear building.
Focus of the Investigation
Authorities have not publicly confirmed what they were looking for during the operation. However, sources close to the case told Mid-Hudson News that investigators were searching for a body, or human remains, potentially linked to a crime that occurred in the past.
The nature of the investigation remains tightly guarded, and officials have not released further details about the suspected crime or when it may have occurred.
Property Ownership
According to public records, the property is registered under “On the Spot Taxi,” a local business. It is unclear if the current search is directly connected to the company or its operations.
Community Impact and Next Steps
The presence of multiple law enforcement agencies and federal task force involvement underscores the seriousness of the case. While officials have yet to make a formal statement regarding what was found—or if anything was recovered—residents of the area remain on edge as the investigation continues.
Authorities are expected to release more information once the search is completed and initial findings are reviewed.
