MPD Seeks Suspect in $600 Designer Hoodie Theft in Southeast D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of stealing a high-end designer hoodie from a fashion store in Southeast Washington, D.C.

Details of the Incident

According to police, the theft occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at a store called SOMEWHERE, located in the 1200 block of 1st Street, Southeast.

Authorities said the incident began around 8:49 a.m., when the suspect entered the store and briefly spoke with employees. After the interaction, the man reportedly moved to a clothing rack, picked up a tan Rick Owens DRKSHDW Jumbo Gimp Hoodie—valued at approximately $593.39—and walked out of the store without paying.

The store manager told officers that the man left the premises around 8:55 a.m., roughly six minutes after entering.

Police Response

The MPD received a call reporting the theft and responded to the scene at 10:24 a.m. By that time, the suspect had already left. Officers took a report from the store manager and began gathering information about the incident.

Rick Owens, known for his luxury streetwear and avant-garde designs, has a devoted following. Items like the DRKSHDW hoodie are not only high-priced but also highly sought after, making them attractive targets for theft.

Community Assistance Requested

Police are now turning to the community for assistance in locating the suspect. MPD encourages anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area that morning or who has information about the suspect to come forward.

Information can be shared with MPD by calling 202-727-9099 or by sending an anonymous text to the Department’s tip line at 50411.

Broader Context

While thefts of luxury goods are not uncommon in D.C., the MPD has emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving these cases. Designer clothing and accessories often fetch high resale prices, and in some instances, stolen items can quickly surface on second-hand marketplaces.

This case also highlights the challenges that independent and boutique fashion retailers face in urban areas, where shoplifting can have a significant financial impact.

What Happens Next

MPD investigators are reviewing available evidence and may release surveillance images if they can aid in identifying the suspect. In the meantime, they are urging residents and store owners in the neighborhood to remain alert.

The department stresses that even small pieces of information—such as spotting someone wearing the stolen hoodie or noticing unusual activity in the area—could prove crucial to their investigation.

If you have information about this incident, call 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
