Intel Worker Hospitalized After Mental Health Crisis and Threats at Hillsboro Campus

HILLSBORO, Ore. — A person experiencing a mental health crisis at Intel’s Ronler Acres campus in Hillsboro was hospitalized Saturday morning after reportedly threatening others, according to the Hillsboro Police Department.

The incident began around 7:10 a.m., prompting a rapid law enforcement and corporate security response. Officer Zac Storm, a spokesperson for Hillsboro PD, confirmed that the individual was detained within 20 minutes and placed under a mental health hold. The person was then transported to a local hospital for evaluation and care.

No Injuries, No Criminal Charges Filed

Authorities said the individual, who was reportedly threatening others, did not injure anyone, and no weapons were involved. Police are not pursuing criminal charges at this time, emphasizing that the case is being treated strictly as a mental health matter.

“It appears an employee was having a mental health crisis and was threatening other employees,” Storm stated in an email. However, it remains unclear whether the individual was a direct Intel employee or a contractor, or whether they were on duty or visiting the site during off hours.

Intel Responds with Precautionary Measures

Intel issued a company-wide safety alert following the incident, instructing employees to avoid the RA4-D1X Link at the company’s D1X fabrication facility, part of its massive Ronler Acres campus.

In a public statement, Intel said, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our employees and our community. Out of an abundance of caution, Intel deployed our security threat response after an individual was reportedly attempting to harm themselves and others.”

The company added that normal business operations have since resumed and declined to answer further questions about the individual or the specifics of the threats made.

Ongoing Support and Mental Health Awareness

The situation underscores the importance of mental health support in the workplace. Both Intel and local authorities acted quickly to prevent harm and provide the necessary care for the individual involved.

No additional information has been released regarding the person’s identity, the nature of the threats, or their current condition. Intel and law enforcement officials continue to coordinate to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees at the site.
