Four Suspected Drug Dealers Arrested in Portland After Bike Squad Sergeant Spots Street Deal

PORTLAND, Ore. – A routine patrol in downtown Portland turned into a major drug bust on Friday after a sergeant with the Portland Police Bureau’s (PPB) Central Precinct Bike Squad spotted what appeared to be a street-level drug transaction. The observation ultimately led to the arrest of four suspected drug dealers and the seizure of weapons, fentanyl, and cash.

Street Deal Leads to First Arrest

According to police, the initial arrest occurred near Pioneer Courthouse Square. A PPB bike squad sergeant witnessed the suspected deal and moved in, taking Michael B. Dooley into custody.

Dooley was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center, where he was charged with:

  • Two counts of felon in possession of restricted weapons

  • Possession of a controlled substance

  • Delivery of a controlled substance

Officers recovered a replica firearm, an illegal knife, a stun gun, drug packaging materials, and dealer-level quantities of fentanyl in connection with the arrest.

Multi-Agency Operation

Later that evening, PPB expanded the investigation into a coordinated multi-agency operation. Working with the FBI, detectives from the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit, and members of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, officers conducted targeted arrests across multiple downtown locations.

Three additional suspects were apprehended, though police have not yet released their identities.

Locations of Arrests

The subsequent arrests took place in separate areas within downtown Portland:

  • Southwest 12th Avenue and Southwest Harvey Milk Street

  • Southwest 14th Avenue and Southeast Columbia Street

  • Southwest 15th Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street

In each case, officers recovered significant amounts of suspected narcotics along with cash believed to be linked to drug sales.

Seized Contraband

Police confirmed the operation yielded:

  • Large quantities of fentanyl

  • Cash associated with drug transactions

  • Additional drug packaging materials

Authorities described the seizures as consistent with dealer-level activity, not simple possession.

Ongoing Investigation

While Dooley has been formally charged, the three additional suspects remain under investigation. Detectives are working with federal and county partners to determine the full scope of the operation and possible connections to larger drug networks.

Police say fentanyl continues to be one of the most pressing public safety challenges in Portland, contributing to overdoses and violent crime. They emphasized that collaborative enforcement efforts like Friday’s operation are designed to disrupt distribution channels and increase community safety.

Community Impact

The arrests come as Portland grapples with an ongoing fentanyl crisis that has placed enormous strain on first responders and health officials. Authorities believe the proactive patrol and quick coordination across agencies helped prevent a significant quantity of drugs from reaching city streets.

The Portland Police Bureau thanked its federal and county partners for their assistance and urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activity.

Anyone with additional information about the cases is asked to contact the Portland Police Bureau Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit.
