Woman Found Safe After Reports of Kidnapping in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A tense evening in Northeast D.C. ended with relief Thursday night after police confirmed that a woman, initially believed to have been kidnapped, was found safe.

The Initial Call

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said officers were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. to the intersection of Oklahoma Avenue and 24th Street NE following reports of a possible kidnapping.

Witnesses told police that a man appeared to force a woman into a white Honda Odyssey before driving away. The report sparked a swift police response, with investigators canvassing the area for leads.

Woman Located Safely

Roughly two hours later, MPD confirmed to WUSA9 that the woman at the center of the report had been located. Police said she was safe but did not release further details on her condition or the circumstances of how she was found.

Officials also did not specify whether the initial account of her being forced into the vehicle has been verified.

No Arrests Reported

As of late Thursday, police said no arrests had been made in connection with the case. Detectives continue to investigate, reviewing witness statements and seeking additional information about the incident and the man allegedly involved.

Public Assistance Requested

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about the white Honda Odyssey or its driver to come forward.

Tips can be shared directly with detectives by calling (202) 727-9099 or anonymously by texting 50411 to the MPD tip line.

Community Reaction

Residents in the neighborhood said the incident left them rattled. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen right outside your door,” one neighbor told reporters. “We’re just glad she’s okay.”

Union officials stressed that while the case remains under investigation, the most important outcome was that the woman was safely located.

Ongoing Investigation

Detectives are still working to determine what led up to the incident and whether criminal charges will follow. Police have not released the identities of either the woman or the man described by witnesses.

For now, MPD says its focus is on gathering evidence and ensuring community members remain alert but reassured that there is no ongoing threat.
