PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. – Authorities are investigating a disturbing incident in Fort Washington after a woman was found dead and a man critically injured during a welfare check Sunday afternoon.
Welfare Check Leads to Grim Discovery
Prince George’s County police said officers were dispatched around 1:50 p.m. to a home in the 500 block of Bonhill Drive. Concerned community members had requested the welfare check after being unable to reach the residents.
When officers entered the residence, they discovered the body of an adult woman. Detectives confirmed she had “trauma to the body,” though officials have not released details about the nature of her injuries.
Alongside her, police located an adult man suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Detectives Working to Piece Together Events
Authorities have not yet identified the woman publicly, pending notification of her family. The man’s identity has also not been released. Detectives are now working to determine the circumstances that led to the violence inside the home.
Investigators did not immediately confirm whether the incident is being treated as a domestic case, but emphasized that the scene remains active and that they are pursuing all leads.
Recent Incidents Raise Alarm
The tragedy comes amid a series of violent incidents reported in Prince George’s County in recent weeks. Just last month, a woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds in another part of the county. On Saturday, a separate fatal crash in Fort Washington also drew heavy police response.
While officials have not connected these events, the string of emergencies has unsettled many local residents.

Neighbors described the Bonhill Drive area as a typically quiet community, making Sunday’s discovery especially unsettling.
“It’s frightening,” said one resident who asked not to be identified. “You never expect something like this to happen right next door.”
