Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Fishkill Walmart Parking Lot

FISHKILL, NY — A tragic accident in the parking lot of the Walmart on Merritt Boulevard claimed the life of a 63-year-old LaGrangeville woman just before noon on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

According to Fishkill Police Lieutenant Paul Schettino, the victim was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 61-year-old woman from Holmes, New York. The incident was reported to Dutchess County 911, with multiple callers stating a pedestrian had been hit—some noting she was unconscious at the scene.


Emergency Response and Victim’s Condition

When Fishkill Town Police arrived at the busy shopping center, they found a crowd of bystanders attempting to assist the injured woman. Emergency responders triaged her on site and quickly transported her by ambulance to St. Luke’s-Cornwall Montefiore Hospital in Newburgh.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the woman later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.


Investigation Underway

Lieutenant Schettino confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with investigators. The ongoing investigation is being led by the Fishkill Police Department, with support from the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit to determine the cause and contributing factors in the fatal collision.

At this time, authorities have not released the names of either the victim or the driver, and no charges have been filed.

Shoppers and employees in the area were visibly shaken by the tragic event, which unfolded in broad daylight in one of the region’s busiest commercial areas. Walmart remained open, but sections of the parking lot were cordoned off for several hours as police collected evidence and reconstructed the scene.
