LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — A woman from Virginia is facing serious charges after allegedly stealing $50,000 from an elderly resident of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The West Lampeter Police Department announced that Margaret Christel, 34, of Falls Church, Virginia, has been formally charged in the case.
Allegations of Check Fraud
According to investigators, Christel is accused of altering or stealing multiple checks belonging to the elderly victim. The financial exploitation reportedly began earlier this year, and the total amount stolen or fraudulently altered is estimated at $50,000.
Police said the investigation into the alleged theft spanned several weeks, concluding on July 21, when charges were officially filed.
Suspect Turns Herself In
Christel turned herself in to authorities on July 25, several days after the charges were issued. She now faces a felony charge of financial exploitation of an older adult, a crime that carries significant legal consequences under Pennsylvania law.
