Victim Fights Off Attacker in D.C. Home Invasion; Suspect Arrested

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Northwest Washington resident bravely fought off an attacker during a violent home invasion and attempted sexual assault over the weekend, according to the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, June 14, at a home in the 1200 block of 11th Street NW. Police say the suspect unlawfully entered an occupied residence, where he assaulted the victim while attempting to commit a forced sexual act.


Victim Resists as Attacker Flees Scene

Despite the violence of the encounter, the victim was able to resist, and the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The incident triggered an intense investigation by D.C. police, who worked quickly to track down the assailant.


Arrest Made Days Later

On Wednesday, June 18, authorities arrested 32-year-old Makel McGrier, a resident of Northeast D.C., in connection with the case. McGrier was taken into custody under the authority of a D.C. Superior Court warrant and now faces a series of serious charges, including:

  • Burglary One

  • Assault with Intent to Commit First-Degree Sexual Abuse

  • Third-Degree Sex Abuse


Investigation Ongoing

Police have not yet disclosed how McGrier was identified as the suspect, nor have they confirmed whether he and the victim had any prior relationship. The case remains under active investigation, and more details may be released as the legal process continues.
