WASHINGTON, D.C. — Authorities are investigating two separate carjacking incidents that occurred within an eight-hour span in Southeast D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The first carjacking attempt took place late Monday night around 11:48 p.m. in the 300 block of South Carolina Avenue SE. Police say the victim was sitting inside his vehicle when he was suddenly approached by multiple suspects. The suspects allegedly opened the car door and forcibly pulled the victim out of the vehicle.
Despite the aggressive attempt, the suspects were unable to drive the car away and ultimately fled the scene on foot. Police responded promptly, but no arrests were made at the scene.
Second Incident: Car Successfully Taken
Just hours later, on Tuesday morning around 7:22 a.m., officers responded to another reported carjacking—this time in the 1500 block of Butler Street SE.
In this case, the victim told officers that a group of individuals approached, took control of the vehicle, and successfully fled the scene in the stolen car. Unlike the earlier incident, officers were able to track down and apprehend the suspects shortly after the carjacking occurred.
No Known Connection Between the Two Cases
At this time, police have not found evidence to suggest the two incidents are related. However, both cases remain active investigations, and detectives are working to determine any possible links between the suspects or motives behind the crimes.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or send anonymous tips via text to 50411.
