Three Portland Teens Arrested After Gunpoint Robbery in Newport

NEWPORT, Ore. — Police say three 18-year-olds from Portland were arrested Friday night in connection with an armed robbery that took place earlier in the evening along Newport’s historic bayfront.

Armed Robbery on Bay Boulevard

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. Friday in a parking lot on Southwest Bay Boulevard. According to the Newport Police Department, the victim reported that a group of masked individuals pulled up in a Honda CRV and confronted him.

One suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and ordered him into the vehicle. Once inside, the victim said the other suspects, also masked and armed, demanded that he hand over all his cash.

“The suspect males ordered the victim to give them all of his money,” Newport Police said in a statement. “The victim complied and gave them a large sum of cash.”

After the robbery, the suspects released the victim. He managed to take a photo of the Honda as it drove away, which later helped police track the vehicle.

Suspects Located in Corvallis

Roughly an hour later, around 7:20 p.m., the Benton County Sheriff’s Office spotted the Honda in Corvallis and detained the three individuals inside. Newport Police officers traveled to Corvallis to continue the investigation.

A search warrant executed on the Honda uncovered evidence linking the suspects to the robbery, including weapons, clothing, and the victim’s stolen money.

Suspects Identified

The three suspects were identified as:

  • Jonathan Olivera Duran, 18, of Portland

  • Manuel Felipe, 18, of Portland

  • Miguel Interian Sosa, 18, of Portland

All three were transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where they face multiple charges:

  • First-degree robbery

  • First-degree theft

  • Unlawful use of a weapon

  • Coercion

  • Menacing

Authorities did not immediately release details about the fourth individual reportedly involved in the robbery.

Ongoing Investigation

Police say the case remains under investigation, with Newport officers working alongside the Benton County Sheriff’s Office to determine whether additional suspects or accomplices may be involved.

The Newport Police Department praised the quick collaboration between law enforcement agencies, noting that the swift arrest prevented the suspects from leaving the area.

Community Impact

The robbery rattled Newport’s busy bayfront, a popular destination for both locals and tourists. While no one was physically harmed during the incident, police emphasized the seriousness of the crime, citing the use of firearms and the intimidation of the victim.
