LaGrange, NY — Three men are facing multiple charges following a violent incident at The Ambassador Cigar Shop in LaGrange early Thursday morning.
Victim Found Bound and Injured
At approximately 2:35 a.m. on July 24, 2025, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks responded to a disturbance call at the cigar shop, located at 1214 State Route 55. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a 31-year-old male victim suffering from visible facial injuries. His hands had been tied with zip ties.
Three men at the scene — 20-year-old Jamal Maher of Highland, NY; 21-year-old Mahamed Ali of Yonkers, NY; and 20-year-old Tareq Ali, also of Yonkers — claimed to be employees of the smoke shop. However, further investigation raised serious concerns about their involvement in the assault and kidnapping.
Incident Traced Back to Yonkers
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that the incident originated in Yonkers and later escalated in LaGrange. Authorities confirmed that all four individuals knew each other prior to the incident. The altercation is believed to have begun earlier in Yonkers, with tensions culminating in the assault and abduction at the cigar shop.
Serious Charges and High Bail
All three suspects were arrested and arraigned in the Town of LaGrange Court. They are currently being held at Dutchess County Jail. Bail has been set at $250,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or a $1.5 million partially secured bond for each suspect.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
Authorities have not yet released specific charges or a possible motive, but the investigation remains ongoing.
