ANNANDALE, VA — Police are investigating the deaths of three adults believed to be homeless, whose bodies were discovered in two separate locations in Annandale on the morning of July 29, according to the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD).
The first call came in at 6:45 a.m., when officers responded to a report of two unresponsive individuals outside the Goodwill store at 7031 Columbia Pike. Upon arrival, police discovered an adult male and adult female, both deceased, lying on a sleeping pad, suggesting they had been living outdoors.
“There doesn’t appear to be foul play,” an FCPD spokesperson stated, indicating no immediate signs of violence. However, the official cause of death is still pending as the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducts autopsies and toxicology tests.
Just over an hour later, at 7:48 a.m., a third death was reported behind the 7-Eleven located at 4209 Annandale Road. Officers found another adult male, also believed to be homeless, with no fixed address. He too was pronounced dead at the scene.
Drug Overdose Suspected
While authorities are awaiting final confirmation, investigators believe the circumstances of all three deaths may be drug-related. However, no official cause has been confirmed until toxicology results are returned.
The deaths have raised concerns within the community and among local organizations that serve the unhoused population. Advocates stress the increasing dangers that homelessness and substance use present, especially during the summer months when exposure and access to safe shelter remain persistent challenges.
Investigation Ongoing
FCPD continues to investigate and is urging anyone with information about the individuals or the circumstances surrounding their deaths to contact them.
These tragic incidents highlight the broader issue of homelessness and public health in Fairfax County, where access to shelter, mental health services, and substance abuse treatment remains critical. Community outreach programs and authorities are working to increase support for vulnerable populations in the area.
Further updates will be provided once the medical examiner’s reports are completed.
