ANNANDALE, Va. – A tragic series of events unfolded on July 29 as Fairfax County Police confirmed the discovery of three deceased individuals, all believed to be homeless, in two separate locations in Annandale.
Two Found Outside Goodwill
The first report came in early that morning. At approximately 6:45 a.m., officers responded to a Goodwill store located at 7031 John Marr Drive following a call about two unresponsive individuals outside the building.
Upon arrival, officers found an adult male and an adult female lying on a sleeping pad, both pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities indicated that there were no immediate signs of foul play, and the sleeping pad suggested they were unhoused individuals likely seeking shelter for the night.
Third Victim Found Behind 7-Eleven
Just over an hour later, at 7:48 a.m., a second call directed police to the rear of a 7-Eleven convenience store located at 4209 Annandale Road. There, officers discovered a third victim, an adult male, who also appeared to be homeless and had no fixed address on record.
Drug-Related Deaths Suspected
While the official causes of death remain undetermined pending autopsies and toxicology reports from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police say that preliminary observations point to possible drug involvement in all three cases. However, authorities have not formally confirmed that theory.
“There doesn’t appear to be foul play,” a spokesperson for the Fairfax County Police Department stated. “But we’ll wait for toxicology to determine the exact cause.”
A Stark Reminder of Vulnerability
These heartbreaking discoveries highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the homeless population in Fairfax County and across the region. Vulnerable individuals often grapple with exposure, lack of access to medical care, and substance use disorders, which can contribute to sudden or unexplained deaths.
Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigation Ongoing
The Fairfax County Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Community members with any relevant information are encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
In the meantime, advocates and officials alike emphasize the need for increased support, outreach, and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness to help prevent future tragedies.
