LANDOVER, Md. – A brazen daytime theft at a Maryland beauty salon has left a business owner and her staff reeling after thousands of dollars worth of hair bundles were stolen in broad daylight.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Thursday at Salon 809, a popular beauty salon located in Landover. Surveillance footage captured two individuals casually browsing through product displays before swiftly grabbing multiple hair bundles and walking out without paying. The stolen merchandise is estimated to be worth several thousand dollars.
Caught on Camera
The salon’s security video, shared with FOX 5, clearly shows the suspects pretending to shop before executing what appeared to be a well-planned “grab-and-go” theft. No physical confrontation was reported, but the incident has shaken both employees and customers who witnessed it unfold.
A Pattern of Targeted Crimes
Jeimy Flournoy, CEO and owner of Salon 809, expressed deep frustration over the repeated targeting of her businesses. In an interview, Flournoy described this theft as part of a growing trend affecting small businesses across Prince George’s County.
“Staff and customers were traumatized,” she said. “I keep being a victim of crime in all three of my businesses in PG County, and nothing is being done.”
Flournoy also owns a nearby laundromat and says it, too, has faced multiple thefts and vandalism incidents. She’s now calling for greater accountability from local officials and enhanced protections for small business owners, many of whom feel they’re being left to fend for themselves amid rising property crimes.
Security and Prevention Concerns
The salon is known for selling high-end hair bundles—a product that is both valuable and easy to resell, making it a frequent target for thieves. Flournoy believes more needs to be done to deter these types of crimes, especially during business hours when customers and employees are present.
She urged local leaders to take a more proactive approach, including increasing police patrols in commercial areas and offering support to businesses investing in added security measures.
Police Investigation Underway
A police report has been filed, and the Prince George’s County Police Department is reviewing the surveillance footage as part of its investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the theft or the suspects involved to contact law enforcement. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the county’s crime tip hotline.
The incident is another stark reminder of the growing challenges facing small businesses in the region. For Flournoy and others like her, it’s not just about the financial loss—it’s about safety, trust, and the ability to run a business without fear.
