Smoke Shop Robbed at Gunpoint in Montgomery, NY

MONTGOMERY, NY – A terrifying incident unfolded in Orange County last week when a smoke and vape store employee triggered a panic alarm after being robbed at gunpoint. The armed robbery occurred at the Premium Smoke & Vape store on 131 Hawkins Drive in Montgomery on the evening of July 17th.

Panic Alarm Leads to Swift Police Response

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the Town of Montgomery Police Department responded to an emergency alert received by Orange County 911. Upon arrival, officers found the visibly shaken store owner, who recounted the frightening experience.

According to the victim, two Black male suspects entered the store, and one of them brandished a handgun. The armed suspect pressed the weapon against the store owner’s ribcage and demanded cash. Fearing for his life, the victim complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of money.

Suspects Flee Toward Old Neelytown Road

After seizing the money, the suspects fled the store on foot, heading in the direction of Old Neelytown Road. Authorities believe the men entered a waiting getaway vehicle, described as a white or silver four-door sedan.

Montgomery Police Chief John Hank issued a press release following the robbery, confirming that the suspects escaped before law enforcement arrived. No injuries were reported, but the ordeal has left the local business community on edge.

Community Urged to Assist Investigation

As of now, limited information about the suspects has been made public. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity near Hawkins Drive or Old Neelytown Road around the time of the robbery to come forward.

Robbery Adds to Growing Concerns

This incident is the latest in a series of crimes targeting small businesses in the Hudson Valley. Smoke shops and convenience stores, in particular, have become frequent targets due to their late hours and relatively accessible cash.

The Premium Smoke & Vape robbery highlights the need for enhanced security measures, including surveillance systems and alarm protocols. The rapid response triggered by the panic alarm likely prevented the situation from escalating further.

Law Enforcement Presence in Orange County

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments continue to maintain a strong presence across the region. Alongside traditional patrols, the county benefits from a team of eight trained K9 units, certified in areas such as narcotics detection, tracking, and suspect apprehension.

As investigations continue, community vigilance remains a key component in preventing future incidents. Residents and business owners are encouraged to stay alert, report suspicious behavior, and utilize available safety resources.
