WASHINGTON, D.C. – A critical missing person investigation is underway after a 40-year-old woman disappeared from her Northeast D.C. neighborhood on the morning of May 30. The case has now expanded across state lines into Charles County, Maryland, as authorities continue to search for any trace of her.
Ana Escobar-Arevalo was last seen around 7:20 a.m. leaving her residence in the 5800 block of 8th Street NE. According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), she was driving a blue 2008 Honda CR-V bearing D.C. license plate number EB 2261. After her departure, she never returned home, and her current whereabouts remain unknown.
Description and Last Known Appearance
Escobar-Arevalo is described as a Hispanic woman standing approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing around 142 pounds. She has a light complexion, long brown hair, and brown eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing all black: black pants, a black sweater, and black shoes.
Investigators believe she may have traveled into Maryland, based on information obtained from her last known sighting. Authorities have released a photo of Escobar-Arevalo, along with an image of her vehicle, in the hopes that someone in either Washington, D.C. or southern Maryland may recognize her or her car.
Case Declared “Critical Missing”
Police classified her disappearance as a “critical missing person” case, a designation used when the person may be in danger due to age, mental or physical health conditions, or unusual behavior. Although officials have not confirmed if foul play is involved, the classification indicates heightened concern for Escobar-Arevalo’s safety.
She was reported missing the same day she vanished, and the investigation was immediately taken up by detectives from the MPD’s Missing Persons Unit. In coordination with the Youth and Family Services Division, the department has been working to retrace her movements and gather any tips that may assist in locating her.

Officials are now turning to the public for help. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen Escobar-Arevalo or her vehicle—especially in or around Charles County, Maryland—to come forward with information.
