FISHKILL, N.Y. – A Rombout volunteer firefighter is recovering in the hospital after collapsing while responding to a blaze on Mountain View Road early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m., when a Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the reported fire and discovered the firefighter — a well-known town employee — unconscious at the scene.
Emergency crews quickly called for medical assistance. The firefighter was transported by ambulance to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, with a Fishkill police officer onboard to assist with life-saving measures during the trip.
Authorities have confirmed that the fire is not considered suspicious.
The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response also responded, providing support to the Rombout Fire Department as they worked to control the situation.
No further details on the firefighter’s condition have been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
