CARMEL, NY – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is actively seeking part-time help and has opened its doors to retired law enforcement professionals for Special Patrol Officer (SPO) positions.
Hiring Retired Law Enforcement Professionals
According to Sheriff Kevin McConville, the department is offering part-time employment to qualified individuals who have previously served in law enforcement. Eligible candidates must be retired police officers, correction officers, parole officers, or probation officers, in accordance with New York State General Municipal Law.
“These positions are essential for maintaining public safety and order in our facilities,” said McConville. “They provide a vital layer of protection for our schools, courtrooms, and government buildings.”

In addition to their security duties, SPOs are often the first point of contact for visitors and are expected to provide accurate information and courteous assistance to the public.
