A young puppy named Espresso is recovering and safe after a harrowing incident involving fentanyl exposure in Lacey, Washington.
Found Unresponsive in Vehicle
On July 15, first responders discovered Espresso unresponsive inside a vehicle where fentanyl was present. The situation quickly turned dire, as the tiny puppy showed signs of a drug overdose.
Life-Saving Action by Firefighters
Firefighters from the Lacey Fire Department immediately stepped in, drawing on their emergency training to administer Narcan — a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. Thankfully, the dose was effective, and Espresso was revived on the scene.
Transferred to Seattle Humane
Following the incident, Espresso was placed in the care of Seattle Humane, a local animal welfare organization. In a recent Instagram update, the organization shared:
“Espresso has been through a lot over the past week! He nearly died from a fentanyl overdose and had to be revived with Narcan.”
The post also confirmed that Espresso has received a clean bill of health after veterinary care and observation.
Adoption Status
Espresso’s story has drawn significant attention, and while he is not yet available for public adoption, Seattle Humane has noted that his adoption status is pending.
As the community rallies behind this resilient pup, his survival serves as both a hopeful reminder of the importance of first responder training and a sobering warning about the dangers of fentanyl exposure — even for pets.
