Prolific Violent Burglar Arrested, Suspected in Multiple Seattle-Area Crimes

SEATTLE — Police have arrested 29-year-old Patrick Maisonet, a prolific and violent burglar with a long criminal history, after he allegedly cut off his ankle bracelet while on electronic home monitoring. He is now under investigation for a string of burglaries across the Seattle region.

Arrest in Renton

Law enforcement officials confirmed that Maisonet was taken into custody Thursday morning at a home in Renton. He had an active arrest warrant for second-degree escape after prosecutors said he removed his ankle monitor earlier this year.

At the time, Maisonet was serving home detention related to a 2023 home invasion robbery on Beacon Hill. His arrest ends what authorities describe as a dangerous period in which he was believed to be committing new crimes while evading supervision.

A Criminal History Spanning Over a Decade

Court records show that Maisonet’s criminal record dates back to 2009 and includes robbery, assault, residential burglary, theft, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors noted his repeated history of fleeing custody and failure to comply with supervision. In a filing, they wrote:

“The defendant has had 12 warrants issued for his arrest since 2009; six of which were issued since 2016; and one was currently active at the time of filing.”

Despite this record, Maisonet was able to post bail multiple times, raising questions about how he was repeatedly released despite being labeled a public safety risk.

Violent Robbery Allegations

One of the most violent cases linked to Maisonet occurred in August 2023 on Beacon Hill, where prosecutors allege he attacked a man at the front door of his home. The victim was reportedly tased before Maisonet stole chains from around his neck.

In the same period, investigators believe Maisonet was involved in a Tacoma robbery in which multiple firearms were stolen. Prosecutors said he worked with an accomplice in those cases.

Although Maisonet pleaded guilty in May 2024, his bail was later reduced, allowing him to post bond and re-enter the community — a decision now under scrutiny.

Prior High-Profile Incidents

Maisonet’s violent history is not new. In 2016, he was implicated in a high-profile shooting and carjacking on I-5 in Seattle. At that time, prosecutors described him as having a “disturbing criminal history, replete with unapologetically dangerous and violent offenses.”

The repeated pattern of release and reoffending has frustrated both prosecutors and community members who say the justice system has failed to adequately protect the public.

Linked to Additional Burglaries

Police believe Maisonet may be connected to a recent wave of home invasion-style burglaries in South Seattle, many of which targeted Asian families. Renton police said they are seeking a “rush file” of four burglary cases next week and confirmed Maisonet is under investigation for several other incidents.

The ongoing probe aims to determine whether Maisonet acted alone in these recent burglaries or continued to work with accomplices.

Community Concerns

The arrest comes amid heightened community concern over violent home invasions and burglaries across King County. Several recent cases have involved elderly couples being held at gunpoint inside their homes.

“This kind of violence shakes entire neighborhoods,” one South Seattle resident said after hearing of Maisonet’s arrest. “It’s terrifying to think someone with that kind of record was still out on the streets.”

What’s Next

Maisonet has been booked into the King County Jail on his outstanding warrant. Prosecutors are expected to file additional burglary charges in the coming days as investigators connect him to more cases.

Authorities said his history of escape and violent reoffending will likely play a significant role in future bail considerations.

For now, Maisonet’s arrest removes a prolific offender from the streets, but residents and officials alike are pressing for answers about how someone with such a long and violent record was allowed to remain free for so long.
