FORT WASHINGTON, Md. – Seniors living in Prince George’s County District 8 — which includes Andrews Air Force Base, Camp Springs, and Fort Washington — can now apply for financial help through the District 8 Senior Support Fund, a $5 million relief program aimed at easing rising household costs for longtime residents.
About the Program
Funded by MGM National Harbor’s Local Impact Grant, the initiative is part of a $9.7 million annual investment plan spearheaded by County Council Chair Edward P. Burroughs III. The broader plan seeks to restore the original purpose of casino revenues — supporting housing stability, health equity, youth employment, veteran services, and other community priorities.
Eligible seniors can receive assistance for:
-
Lawn cutting services (grass cutting only)
-
Mortgage payment assistance
-
Rental assistance
-
Utility assistance (electric, gas, water)
-
Property tax assistance
“It’s my goal to restore the integrity of what was said when this casino fund was created,” said Vice Chair Burroughs. “This plan invests in initiatives that uplift residents and provides meaningful opportunities in District 8.”
Benefit Amounts
Relief awards will range from $550 to over $2,000, depending on documented need. The program can serve up to 3,000 seniors, with applications open until Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025.
