Police Seek Suspect in Assault on FedEx Employee with Metal Ruler in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (7News) – Authorities are actively searching for a man accused of assaulting a FedEx employee with a heavy metal ruler during a confrontation at a downtown D.C. location earlier this month.

The incident occurred on June 7, 2025, at the FedEx store located at 650 Massachusetts Avenue NW in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood. According to a police report from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) obtained by 7News, the confrontation began when the suspect entered an area designated for employees only.

When a female staff member instructed him to “step behind the line,” the man allegedly began cursing at her and another female employee. The situation escalated quickly, prompting the man to leave the premises—but only temporarily.

Suspect Returns and Assaults Employee

Roughly 15 minutes later, the suspect returned to the store. This time, he allegedly took a 50-inch heavy metal ruler from one of the store’s shelves and began swinging it at a female employee in a threatening and violent manner.

In response, the employee used pepper spray to defend herself from the attack. Despite the defensive action, the suspect was able to flee the store, heading northbound on 7th Street NW.

According to the MPD report, the assault left the employee with a painful blood blister on her hand, causing discomfort and prompting medical evaluation.

Ongoing Investigation

MPD is currently investigating the case and is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect. Surveillance footage and witness statements are being reviewed, though no arrests have been made as of now.

The suspect’s behavior has raised concerns among local businesses and employees in the area, many of whom are demanding increased security in downtown retail zones.

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police Department by calling (202) 727-9099 or sending a text to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. Callers may remain anonymous.

Community Urged to Stay Vigilant

This incident marks another troubling act of workplace violence in a city that has seen a spike in confrontations involving retail and delivery service employees. Officials are reminding residents and workers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

As the investigation continues, MPD officials stress that tips from the public could be crucial in bringing the suspect to justice and ensuring the safety of employees and customers alike.
