WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is asking for the public’s help identifying three suspects involved in a broad daylight shooting that took place earlier this month in the parking lot of a school in Northeast D.C.
The shooting occurred on May 1 around 4:30 p.m. in the 700 block of 26th Street NE, according to police. Surveillance footage shows the suspects firing shots at another individual near the school before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
No Injuries, But School Property Damaged
While no one was physically injured in the shooting, police confirmed the school building sustained damage from the gunfire. Authorities did not disclose the name of the school involved, but emphasized the seriousness of the incident, especially given the proximity to students and staff.
“This could have easily turned tragic,” one officer close to the investigation said. “The fact that a school was hit underscores the danger of gun violence in our communities.”
Surveillance Video Released
On Thursday, MPD released surveillance video capturing the suspects in action. The footage shows three men in the school’s parking lot aiming and firing toward another person before quickly fleeing in a getaway vehicle.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive or whether the individuals involved knew each other.
$10,000 Reward Offered
MPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible.
If you recognize any of the suspects or have information about the shooting, police urge you to contact them at 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous tip via text to 50411.
Community Concerns and Ongoing Investigation
The shooting has raised concerns among parents, educators, and residents, especially as it happened in broad daylight on school grounds. Community members have expressed frustration over the rising number of violent incidents near schools and public spaces.
MPD reassured the public that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and patrols in the area have been increased as a precaution.
How You Can Help
Authorities are asking anyone who lives in the neighborhood or was in the area on May 1 to review their home or business surveillance systems. Even seemingly minor details—such as sightings of a suspicious vehicle or the sound of gunshots—could assist detectives.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
