Police Seek Public’s Help: Armed Carjacking Suspects Still at Large in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (7News) — Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying multiple suspects involved in an armed carjacking that occurred in Southeast D.C. on Friday afternoon. The individuals remain at large, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Carjacking Occurred in Broad Daylight

According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the incident happened around 12:08 p.m. on Friday in the 1200 block of 4th Street SE, not far from the Navy Yard neighborhood. A man was reportedly leaving his parked car when he was approached by multiple suspects, one of whom brandished a handgun and demanded the vehicle’s keys.

Fearing for his safety, the victim complied with the demands. The suspects then fled the scene in his car, described as a gray 2017 Mazda CX-5 bearing Maryland license plate “1EH7711.”

Suspects Remain at Large

As of Sunday, MPD confirmed that no arrests have been made, and the suspects have not yet been publicly identified. The case is now under investigation by the department’s Carjacking Task Force, which has been handling a growing number of similar incidents across the city.

Police have not released surveillance images or suspect descriptions at this time, but they are continuing to canvass the area for leads and footage that may assist the investigation.

Community Urged to Assist

The MPD is encouraging anyone who may have seen the car or witnessed the crime to speak up. Even small details, such as someone seeing the stolen vehicle parked or abandoned, could be critical to solving the case.

“We rely on community members to help us solve these crimes,” said an MPD spokesperson. “If you saw anything suspicious in the area of 4th Street SE around midday on Friday, please reach out.”

Those with information can contact MPD at (202) 727-9099, or they can send anonymous tips via text to 50411.

A Citywide Concern

This carjacking is the latest in a string of similar incidents across Washington, D.C., many of which involve young suspects and firearms. MPD has increased patrols in high-risk areas and continues to deploy specialized units to combat vehicle-related crimes.

In recent months, carjackings in the District have spurred renewed calls for community engagement, quicker prosecution, and stronger preventative measures, particularly near business corridors and residential neighborhoods.

Ongoing Investigation

As the search for the suspects continues, police are urging residents to remain vigilant and take precautions when entering or exiting their vehicles. Anyone who spots the stolen 2017 gray Mazda CX-5 with Maryland plates 1EH7711 is advised not to approach the vehicle or its occupants, but to immediately call 911.

This is an active investigation, and further updates will be shared as more details emerge.
