HIGHLAND, N.Y. – A Dutchess County man is alive after surviving a jump from the Mid-Hudson Bridge on Friday afternoon, thanks to the swift response of local emergency crews.
The incident occurred on June 6th at approximately 1:52 p.m., prompting an urgent dispatch to the Highland side of the bridge. According to a statement from the Town of Lloyd Police Department (LPD), officers responded to reports of a person who had just jumped from the span.
Eyewitnesses Alert Authorities
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered an unattended vehicle parked on the bridge. Bridge workers on site informed police that they had witnessed the driver exit the car and leap into the Hudson River below.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, LPD immediately coordinated with the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department (PFD) to launch a search and rescue effort.
Rescue Mission in the Hudson River
The Poughkeepsie Fire Department quickly deployed their fire boat to scour the river. After approximately 20 minutes of searching, rescue crews successfully located the man several hundred yards south of the bridge, still alive in the water.
He was pulled aboard the fire boat and brought to shore at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie, where emergency medical personnel were waiting. The man was then transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. His current condition has not been publicly released, and his identity remains confidential.
