Man Accidentally Shoots Himself During Attempted Robbery Near Capital One Arena, Police Say

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A chaotic scene unfolded Saturday evening at the Hilton Garden Inn in Northwest Washington when a woman reportedly stripped naked and began hurling bottles of alcohol at hotel guests and staff. The disturbing incident has resulted in multiple charges, including hate-related offenses, against 31-year-old Husani Cacho.

Incident Overview

Around 5:00 p.m. on May 24, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call about a disorderly individual at the Hilton Garden Hotel on New Jersey Avenue, NW. According to the police report, hotel staff had initially detained the suspect outside the building after she had disrobed. However, before authorities arrived, the woman reportedly re-entered the hotel and made her way over the bar, still nude.

Once inside, she allegedly began throwing liquor bottles at both staff members and guests while leaping back and forth over the bar counter. Broken glass and bar items littered the floor when officers arrived at the scene.

Police Confrontation and Statements

Upon locating the woman seated at a high-top table in the hotel lobby—completely naked and surrounded by staff—officers questioned her behavior. She responded, claiming that “my lord and savior, Michael Jackson, told me to do this.

She also admitted to having thrown bottles, pointed toward one of the victims, and shockingly stated, “I wish I got all of them, all of the white people, I’m racist as f*.**”

Officers say Cacho then voluntarily asked to be taken to jail.

Hostile Behavior and Hate Speech

Multiple witnesses recounted the suspect’s actions, saying she was aggressively targeting people with bottles while making racist remarks. The report includes statements from the woman such as, “I hate white people” and “I wish I hit all the white people.

These comments have led authorities to treat the incident as hate- or bias-motivated, adding severity to the list of charges filed.

Cacho was taken into custody and transported to First District Station for processing. She faces several charges, including:

  • Simple Assault (hate/bias-motivated)

  • Destruction of Property (hate/bias-motivated)

  • Lewd Acts

  • Unlawful Entry

  • Disorderly Conduct

Police have not released further details regarding her mental state or any potential intoxication, and no additional information about the victims has been disclosed.

Aftermath

No serious injuries have been reported, but the scene left hotel staff and patrons shaken. The incident adds to a growing list of public disturbances across the city in recent months, prompting ongoing discussions about public safety, mental health support, and law enforcement responses.
