TOWN OF FISHKILL, NY – The Rombout Fire Company celebrated a major milestone on Saturday with the grand opening of its brand-new Station Two firehouse, a modern 13,000-square-foot facility located at the intersection of Routes 52 and 82 in the Brinkerhoff section of town.
The opening event drew community members, elected officials, neighboring fire departments, and proud volunteers, marking a historic moment for the all-volunteer fire company that has served Fishkill residents for decades.
A March from the Past into the Future
In a symbolic and heartfelt gesture, Rombout firefighters marched from their old substation on Cedar Hill Road — a modest two-bay station built 44 years ago — to the newly completed building. The walk spanned just half a mile, but represented a giant leap forward for the department.
Speeches from local leaders and fire officials followed the procession, with Fire Chief Jeff Marino delivering the final words before officially declaring Station Two open and in active service.
From Humble Beginnings to a $12 Million Modern Facility
The original Station Two was constructed in 1981 after voters approved a $160,000 budget for its development, along with an additional $120,000 for a new fire truck. Built on donated land, the original substation served the department faithfully for over four decades but had outlived its capacity to meet the needs of a growing community.
The new firehouse, with an estimated cost of $12 million, reflects both the district’s continued population growth and the evolving demands of volunteer firefighting in New York State. With updated safety standards, more stringent training requirements, and an increasing call volume, the upgraded space will help ensure faster response times and greater efficiency.
