RHINEBECK, N.Y. — New York State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating 36-year-old Cory D. Timberlake, a transient man who has been missing since mid-April. Timberlake was last in contact with his family shortly after being discharged from Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla on April 17, and he hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Authorities say his disappearance is especially concerning due to his homeless status, lack of a vehicle, and tendency to travel by hitchhiking across various counties in New York.
Last Known Sighting
Timberlake was last known to be at the Westchester Medical Center, where he had been receiving care. He was released from the facility on April 17 and reportedly reached out to family members shortly afterward. However, that was the last confirmed communication anyone had with him.
Since then, there have been no verified sightings or contact, and the trail has gone cold—prompting a multi-county search effort.
Description and Travel Patterns
Cory Timberlake is described as:
-
5 feet 9 inches tall
-
Approximately 140 pounds
-
Black hair
-
Green eyes
Due to his transient lifestyle, Timberlake does not have a permanent address or transportation. According to police, he frequently hitchhikes and has been known to travel through Dutchess, Westchester, Columbia, and St. Lawrence counties.
This mobility, while part of his regular routine, has significantly complicated efforts to pinpoint his location or retrace his steps. Police say they are expanding their efforts and coordinating with law enforcement agencies across county lines to aid the search.
Challenges in the Investigation
The case is being led by the New York State Police in Rhinebeck, who are actively pursuing leads and seeking tips from the public.
“Timberlake’s lack of a fixed address and mode of transportation make it difficult to track him through conventional methods,” said a spokesperson for the NYSP. “We’re relying heavily on the public to be our eyes and ears in communities where he may be passing through.”
Investigators are reviewing hospital records, surveillance footage, and any tips from local residents. However, Timberlake’s transient lifestyle means he could be anywhere in the state—or beyond—making public awareness and involvement essential.
How You Can Help
Anyone who believes they may have seen Timberlake, spoken to him, or has any information about his whereabouts is urged to come forward.
You can contact the New York State Police in Rhinebeck directly at (845) 677-7300.
Police stress that even seemingly minor details could help piece together a clearer timeline and potentially lead to his safe recovery.
A Plea for Public Awareness
Disappearance cases involving homeless or transient individuals often receive less attention, yet they can be some of the most difficult and heartbreaking to solve. Without stable shelter, access to communication, or social networks, people like Timberlake are more vulnerable and more likely to fall through the cracks.
Authorities hope that with increased media coverage and community involvement, someone will recognize Timberlake and help bring him back into contact with his family and support systems.
“We are doing everything we can,” said the NYSP spokesperson. “But we truly need the public’s help to find him.”
This is an ongoing investigation. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
