Milton Man Convicted of Multiple Rape Charges, Faces Up to 32 Years in Prison

Saratoga County Jury Delivers Swift Verdict Following Three-Week Trial

Saratoga Springs, NY (WRGB) — A 38-year-old man from Milton has been found guilty on multiple rape-related charges following a three-week trial in Saratoga County Court.

Sean Cherven was convicted by a jury on charges of Rape in the First Degree, Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, and Rape in the Third Degree, stemming from a violent sexual assault that occurred on March 19, 2024, in the Town of Milton.

Swift Jury Verdict

According to Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts after deliberating for approximately one hour, indicating strong confidence in the prosecution’s case.

During the proceedings, the prosecution called more than ten witnesses, including the victim, who provided a detailed and emotional account of the assault. The testimony was supported by evidence presented by a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) from Saratoga Hospital, who conducted a thorough post-assault examination.

Additionally, forensic experts from the New York State Police Forensic Investigations Center offered scientific evidence that directly linked Cherven to the crime scene, further strengthening the case.

Defense Denied by Jury

Cherven took the stand in his own defense, denying that any sexual contact had occurred. However, the jury clearly found the testimony and evidence provided by the prosecution to be far more credible and compelling.

Judge Lorraine Diamond, who presided over the case, remanded Cherven into custody immediately following the verdict.

Sentencing Set for September

Cherven is scheduled to be sentenced on September 9, 2025, and could face up to 32 years in state prison for his crimes.

District Attorney Heggen praised the courage of the victim and the diligent work of law enforcement and medical personnel. She emphasized that the conviction sends a strong message about the county’s commitment to prosecuting sexual violence cases thoroughly and aggressively.

The case underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between victims, medical professionals, law enforcement, and forensic experts in achieving justice for survivors of sexual assault.
